If you’re anything like me, you want to make the absolute most out of your life, but aren’t always quite sure exactly how to get there. Scrolling through social media apps I see so many wonderful women doing it all! They have fantastic jobs they are passionate about, seemingly perfect relationships they post, and expertly crafted morning routines they follow to a T!
While all of that is wonderful, is it real life? I don’t know about you, but it sure ain’t mine.
Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love life and strive to take it all in and make the most of it. And that’s exactly why I’m here! I want to show any 20-something woman that just because you don’t have it all figured out right now, and can’t possibly fathom realistically waking up 2 hours early each day in order to start your perfect morning with a workout, green juice, and meditation, doesn’t mean that you aren’t making the most of life.
I’m here to share with you my honest, no bs thoughts on a realistic approach to all the girls who are feeling a little lost, maybe also a little lazy (because I sure can be!), but still want to figure out how to make the most of it all, dream big, stay motivated and make shit happen for themselves!
The Girl Behind The Blog
My family immigrated to Vancouver, Canada when I was 4 years old, and once again to San Diego, California when I was in the 9th grade. I’m an only child so growing up without siblings, or a whole lot of friends and family around me for that matter made me a pretty big introvert. In high school I never really felt like I fit in, so when it was finally time for college I convinced myself that i was going to pull a full 360 on my personality and become super outgoing, make a bunch of friends, be motivated to work out and excel in school!
I got a huge reality check pretty quickly though.
Who knew that it’s not that easy to flip your life around and become a whole new person overnight? 18-year-old me sure didn’t!
My story turns out okay though. I did end up meeting my absolute best friends. Starting up and quitting about 100 workout routines that I promised myself I would finally get in the habit of. Skipping more classes than I went to, and instead going to get drunk off of mimosas at brunch. Endless last-minute road trips all over the US and Canada. Panicked, 3-day straight study binges before every final exam. A variety of summer jobs I could not ever get myself to care about. And at the end, a computer science degree.
I was convinced the path to my happy and successful life was at the end of my compsci degree. My plan was to graduate, move back to San Diego, find a job and work my way up the corporate ladder while hopefully meeting a nice man along the way to spend my life with.
At first, the plan was going as expected. I got my first developer job and was grateful for every second of it. I worked 7-3 and spent the rest of my time sitting in 2 hours of traffic, maybe dragging myself to the gym if I had the energy, and spent the rest of my time feeling 100% exhausted 100% of the time.
Then covid hit. I suddenly got hours of my day back. And since I didn’t have many friends in San Diego, not that it would matter since we were in quarantine anyway, I started to realize that I could not spend the next 40 years of my life in this routine.
I wanted more. More adventure. More time. More freedom. More personal growth.
I realized that while I was extremely grateful for my job, I wanted to do something that would ultimately give me the flexibility to work my own hours, and the ability to work from anywhere. That was the dream.
So I started and ultimately failed a variety of side hustles, read every motivational self-help book I could find, and started reading other people’s blogs on motivation, organization, and personal growth.
Ultimately it wasn’t that easy – The point of this story is not to say that by doing all this I flipped my life around and now I’m living the life of my dreams (Just yet). But what my journey so far has taught me is that life is about growth, challenges, and finding small ways to keep yourself accountable. And thats what Im passionate about sharing!
My goal is to build a space for young women to come together for motivation but with a pinch of realism. A place to talk about real life struggles, personal growth, self-development, healthy habits, navigating the corporate world, and figuring out and working towards our passions. We are all a work in progress and that’s exactly what makes life so freaking cool!
