Ways to push yourself out of your comfort zone - 1 for each month
January - Work on deep self reflection
The best way to start every year is with a deep self-reflection! Spend the month actively working on journaling and asking yourself deep questions that you may not be used to answering.
My favorite thing is to get a dedicated journal for the year and work to fill it out with thoughts, ideas, quotes, and goals for the year. I do the bulk of my self-reflection during my January reset because it sets me up with a plan for the rest of the year.
If you aren’t sure where to start, there are plenty of self-reflection questions online that you can find. Or you can start with these 9 deep self-reflection questions to get to know yourself!
February - Take yourself on solo dates
This February challenge yourself to take yourself out on some solo dates. We rarely spend intentional time with ourselves so taking the time to do it can lead to a lot of opportunities for self-discovery.
Pick a couple of weekends and just spend the day alone. Go to dinner, a walk, a movie, or whatever you categorize as your version of a perfect date.
Spending time alone, especially in public such as at dinner can be intimidating. But finding joy in your own company is so important because the only person guaranteed to be in your life forever is you. So take this as an opportunity to find joy in your own company and maybe even learn a little something new about yourself!
March - Cook meals from a different country
Spend March experimenting with new flavors from across the world! Cook unique cuisines that will expand your pallet and your taste buds.
Cooking different foods will challenge your cooking skills and you may just find new goto recipes to add to your weekly rotation!
April - Eliminate TV time
Challenge yourself to eliminate TV time in April. Spend the month outdoors, reading a book, or spending quality time with loved ones.
Cutting out TV time might be harder than you think, but this is a great challenge that will help you find new ways of entertaining yourself.
May - 31 Days of stretching
Make it a habit to do daily stretches in the month of May! Stretching is so beneficial for your body and will make you feel amazing.
Notice how stiff you are on day one, and compare it to day 31. The difference might shock you!
June - Take cold showers
June is when the weather starts to get a little warmer which is the perfect time to challenge yourself to cold showers.
If you are like me and don’t tolerate the cold super well, you can just turn the shower on cold the last 30 seconds and still get the benefits!
Cold showers have an insane amount of benefits. They improve circulation, wake you up, boost your immune system, increase metabolism, and reduce stress among other benefits! Cold showers might even be worth it to continue doing long-term… or at least for the summer 😅!

July - Practice creativity
Spend July challenging yourself to find new ways to be creative. Step out of your comfort zone and join a painting class, or write a short story you have been thinking about for a while.
Challenging yourself to be creative will inspire you to think differently and can even become a new hobby you love!
August - Cut out your phone
Spend the last month of the summer away from your phone by limiting your usage. Delete the apps you know you spend way too much time on and try to actively be present in the moment.
Cutting down your phone time can be pretty difficult but it’s worth it to be able to spend more time being in the moment. Try replacing texting with FaceTime, and replace taking photos with using a digital camera instead. Also instead of googling any question you have ask friends and family. It’s a fun way to briefly transport yourself to a time before technology.
September - Walk or Run 100 miles
Challange yourself to running or walking 100 miles in the month of September! 100 miles averages out to be about 3.33 miles a day which is doable. But can stack up really quickly if you miss a few days. That’s why this is a goal you should be working daily towards.
It could get quite challanging to commit to 100 miles in a single month, but it’s worth it to try to meet your goal.
October - Take an online class
Learning doesn’t have to stop when you are done with school. Try taking a class either in person or online about a subject you are interested in.
There are affordable online classes on so many different platforms these days like Skillshare or Udemy. You can take anything from cooking to web development or product photography! Learning as an adult is super fun because it allows you to expand your knowledge base in your field of interest.
November - Start a list of 3 new things you are grateful for each day
I saw this tip somewhere and I loved the idea of it! Start a list and add 3 new things each day that you are grateful for. By the end of the month, you will have 90 different things you are super grateful for in your life!
Challenging yourself to write 3 new things every day will help you begin to look at the positivity in every day you live. It will also inspire you to think outside the box and pay attention to little details in your life.
December - Find ways to give back each week
Spend December giving back to your friends, family and community. Either by volunteering your time, donating some money or just by doing a kind gesture for someone close to you.
Giving back doesn’t have to be expensive or a grand gesture. Challenge yourself to find small but meaningful things you can be doing for those closest to you. It’s the perfect way to round out your year positively and intentionally!
